Curly Cutie(s) Spotting

I like to think that I’m keeping up with the times. Especially when it comes to music. However, I have not even heard of this group. This may be because I am not a 13 year old girl. Or, I really just missed the boat on these cuties. But anyway, this is Mindless Behavior. Check out the heads of curls and braids on these guys! The outfits on the other hand…..

Curly Cutie Spotting: Jeremiah

One of my precious readers, Michelle (you may know her as the face behind the wonderous blog Girly and Curly), sent me a photo of a little boy she spotted in Target.

Jeremiah is super cute but Michelle relayed that his dad wants to cut his hair very soon. So we will relish in his curls now. Enjoy!

Thanks Michelle!

I first spotted this cutie over at Baby Big Hair’s Facebook Page. I almost fainted seeing all that hair on the gorgeous little boy. So I did some investigating to see if there were more and unfortunately there weren’t. But we will relish this one just the same!

Double Twisted Braids

LB’s twist were looking really fuzzy after our Sunday styling session so I had to do something. At this point I usually take them out and he wears a twistout for the weekend.

But after the detangling nightmare after THIS 6 day old wash and go, I didn’t want to put him through any more trauma. So I thought, “what could I do to spruce up this style without taking down the twists?”

And then it hit me! Braid the twists! Look how cool this looks. Looks a bit like braided dreds.

Definitely adding this into styling rotation. I spritzed his fuzzy twists with distilled water and smoothed with a pea sized amount of Kinky Curly Gloss Pomade. I got the idea to braid the twist from THIS posting over at Baby Big Hair.

Link Love: Young.Black.Nappy

There are a lot of cool companies on Facebook and one in particular that really stood out was young.black.nappy. CEO/Founder, Krystle Sims, was nice enough to fill me in on what the hip t-shirt company was all about. In Krystle’s words:

The young.black.nappy. t-shirt line was born out of  natural hair’d designer & poet Krystle Sims’ obsession with colorful graphic tees and, through the help of a great family of young artists, grew into something much more. As a company, ybn is dedicated to promoting positive images of young, talented Blacks with naturally kinky, curly, loc’d, and nappy hair. We believe in the beauty of Black people and encouraging each other to take oride in our hair-itage as we positively impact our community.

young.black.nappy. tees are inspired by and created for the growing and vibrant natural hair community. We know how proud you are of your kinks. We see how your faces light up when another curly ‘fro walks into the room. We hear you chat excitedly about the new styles and products you can’t wait to try. And we want to give you a high-quality, eye-catching, and fun shirt to wear that says to the world… I’m Black, I’m nappy, and I’m proud of it!

These T-shirts designs are so fresh and cool, check them out below.

Once the new website is complete, they will be featuring many of their designs, and some brand new ones, in youth and toddler sizes as well as onesies. SUPER EXCITED!

The Octopus

Hi guys! Its been a while since we have done a styling post so here is the first of a couple we have lined up. The Octopus is a little more difficult than the double stack in my opinion. You have to get the parts just right and the braids are a little more exposed. Which means your cornrowing skills “betta be up ta par”. And we all know that mine aren’t sooooo…..lol.

But anyway. I call this the octopus because it has eight braids coming from a center part, like octopus legs. I do love this style, especially the take down. LB gets the most perfect stretched fro that frames his face.

To do this style I washed with Suave 2-in-1 and conditioned with Suave Almond and Shea Butter. I detangled and used Kinky Curly Knot Today for my leave in and Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to braid.

When I do cornrows on LB, I two strand twist the very end so that its a bit easier to unbraid. Like so:

I began with a part straight down the middle and created parts extending from that one. It took about 20 minutes to complete which is an eternity in toddler land. But I really liked how it turned out and have added it to my repertoire.

Curly Cutie Spotting: Target

I love Target, and Target loves me. I buy  a lot of LB’s basics from there and some of his not so basics. While shopping I spotted this cuties smiling up at me in a display from their Osh Kosh for Target line. Soooooo cute!

Curly Cutie: Cullen

Meet the adorable, almost 3 year old Cullen!

What is Cullen’s hair regimen?

I wash with shampoo once a week anda co-wash once or twice during the week as needed.

How do you style his hair normally?

I spray a mix of water and Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier and scrunch that into his hair to refresh it.  Then, I follow up with Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie (which is amazing!) and just let his hair be free.  He won’t sit still long enough for cornrows or any other type of style.

What products do you use?

After many trials and errors, mycurrent favorites are Kinky Curly Come Clean shampoo and Knot Today leave-in,Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier mixed with water in a handy little spray bottle, Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner for adeep conditioning co-wash, and the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie (did I mention how much I love this stuff?) (Yep! Us too!).

What are your future goals for yourson’s hair?  I plan to keep it big and free!  That is, until he’s old enough to make his own decisions.  He hasn’t expressed any opinions on his hair at this point.  I am all for individual expression.  If he wants a purple Mohawk someday, I’m cool with that. Follow the jump for more of the interview and even more adorable pictures!
